This female client was 8 years old when she had an orofacial myofunctional (OMT) and speech assessment. She was referred by her ENT provider as she had just had her tongue-tie released via scissors, tongue thrust and thumb sucking caused an anterior open bite, speech errors on /s/ and /z/ sounds. The client had ceased thumb sucking just prior to the evaluation. A individual therapy plan with home practice was created and modified weekly or bi-weekly and she participated in therapy targeting speech sounds. Her orthodontist notes the improvement in her open bite and braces are currently on hold and have not been initiated. Client will need a second tongue-tie release as tension is still present, limiting tongue mobility.
