Occupational therapy recognizes the value of engagement in meaningful occupations, and for many individuals, this includes wheeled mobility. Occupational therapists will work closely to conduct individualized assessments to determine the client’s specific functional abilities, mobility needs, and specialty positioning requirements. An evaluation will take place with an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) and Certified Rehabilitation Technology Supplier (CRTS) to provide specialty fitting and customization of adaptive seating systems, alternative positioning systems, manual wheelchairs, and/or power wheelchairs to support the client’s positioning, comfort, and independence.
